[edit] Why I Like BattleTech

I used to be a hardcore Star Wars fan. I was really into the Expanded Universe of Star Wars. I read some the novels and I had many of the source books. But the more I got into it, the more I realized that the new movies didn't mesh at all with the EU and that within the EU, some of the plots were a little ridiculous and recycled. One example is R2-D2 destroying a Star Destroyer even bigger than the Super Star Destroyer Executor from Return of the Jedi just by "over loading its systems" or Leia and Luke destroying another such Star Destroyer by "creating a force storm" or by some other cop out. Plus Palpatine comes back like 3 times, probably because the writers couldn't come up with anything better. And of course there is always George Lucas's dickitude regarding his re-editing of the original movies and the crappy prequels. /rant

I'd always been into Battletech, so I started reading more of the books and got much more involved with BattleTech on Wikipedia. I eventually decided that considering all the crap I hate about Star Wars, I'd only have a casual intrest in it now, and focus my sci-fi attention to BattleTech. I usually check the BattleTech page at least once a day.

I was introduced to BattleTech by a friend of mine who had the game Mechwarrior 2. I loved the game. What could be better than giant robotic war machines destroying other giant robotic war machines? So of course I got Mechwarrior 3 when it came out and got even deeper into BattleTech. Then that same friend bought a BattleTech novel and I read it and loved it. So then I bought several of the books myself. Now I have 15 or so.

[edit] Why I Like Metal

Like many metal fans I got into metal from the popular bands of the genre like Metallica and Black Sabbath and for the past several years, my favorite metal band has been Iron Maiden. I like metal because 1. The subject matter is usually very different from other kinds of music. 2. The use of guitar and drums in metal appeals to me. 3. Most metal bands aren't label contructed crap. 4. It sort of underground. 5. It gets me, umm.. fired up I guess.
