[edit] Trivia
- Akira was involved in a motorcycle accident before. (It is not documented, possibly to protect his privacy.) It is evident that he liked motorcycles but ever since the accident, it is said that he has been banned from riding again by Mausu Promotions.
- He admitted to disliking vegetables when he appeared as a guest on the radio show 'Mikako@Payo Payo'
- He had confessed to not owning a cell phone on Naruto Nippon. Whether or not he currently owns a cell phone is up to debate.
- At least 2 of the characters he voiced had links to the word "dawn".
- In Naruto, his character (Gaara) was captured by the group Akatsuki (dawn in Japanese).
- In Gundam Seed, his character's (Athrun Zala) name means dawn; Cagalli, his love interest, also had links to the word.
- Some of his characters have links with music as well.
- In Kare Kano, Ikeda Kazuma is the lead singer of a rock band.
- In the Nana anime, Akira voices Okazaki Shinichi, the bassist of the band Black Stones.
- In Evangelion, Kaworu made his appearance humming Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". He is also shown to play violin in the movie, Death and Rebirth, and plays the piano in the manga.
- In Gundam Seed, one of Athrun Zala's closest friends (Nicol Amalfi) was a piano player.
- In Spiral, Eyes Rutherford is a piano prodigy.
- In Japan, apart from the time while Full Metal Alchemist was showing, he has appeared in every anime in the Saturday 6 p.m. timeslot on MBS and TBS, beginning from Gundam Seed and ending with Blood+. (GS, GSD and Blood+)
- One of the most well-known characters whom he has voiced (Kaworu Nagisa) appeared in the anime (Evangelion) for only one episode, with about 13 minutes of screentime.

- For his portrayal of Athrun Zala in Gundam Seed Destiny, Akira won the "Best Supporting Character (male)" award at the first "Seiyu Awards". In the same category, Soichiro Hoshi was also nominated for his role as Kira Yamato in the same series.
