Aku Aku (アク アク Aku Aku?) is a video game character in Naughty Dog's Crash Bandicoot series. He is the only character besides Crash to appear in every installment of the series.
As stated in the instruction manual of the first Crash Bandicoot game, Aku Aku is the ancient voodoo mask spirit of an old witch doctor, who looks over the southeast Australian islands as if he was its god. When he sensed Crash's and Coco's journey to ruin Doctor Neo Cortex's plan for world domination, he befriended them and scattered copies of himself to aid them. Copies of him are hidden in marked crates, and when broken, the mask will be released, and will protect Crash from one enemy attack. Collecting three in a row without getting hit will result in Crash becoming temporarily invincible from anything except deep water and bottomless pits.[1]
Aku Aku is voiced by Mel Winkler in his speaking roles, and by Kenichi Ogata in the Japanese dubs of the games

Overview
Aku Aku doesn't play an important role in the series until Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, in which he appears as a father figure of the bandicoots. In the same game, it is revealed that Aku Aku has an evil twin brother named Uka Uka, whom he constantly opposes and has the same strength and power (as evidenced in the final battle against Doctor Cortex, in which he holds off Uka Uka's attacks). Long ago, Aku Aku locked Uka Uka away in a temple prison to protect the world from his malice. From this, it can be assumed that both Aku Aku and Uka Uka are quite old.[2]
In Crash Twinsanity, Aku Aku successfully convinces his twin brother to join him in an attempt to defeat the Evil Twins. However, despite their apparently vast power together, they were still no match for the reality-bending powers of the Evil Twins, and are both easily defeated.[3]
Aku Aku is known for making many cameo appearances in the series, usually as an invincibility power-up in the Crash racing titles, but he has also been seen as a mask on the tiki men in Crash Tag Team Racing, and as the tutor in Crash Boom Bang!.
Trivia
- In nearly all of the games, he is seen having his usual 4 feathers on the mask, with the exception of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, in which he has 7 feathers.
