Al Gordon (b. June 22, 1953, in San Francisco, California) is an American comic book artist. Gordon's career began in the mid-1970s when he worked for industry leader Marvel Comics. While he is best known as an inker, he began co-writing the newly revamped Legion Of Super Heroes in the early 1980s.
Gordon was first hired by Marvel Comics' then-Editor-in-Chief Archie Goodwin to work on the Captain America book doing backups, and then became the regular inker on the original first issues of Spider-Woman. More work during this period at Marvel was Master of Kung Fu, PowerMan & Iron Fist, Iron Man, Thor, and others. Later he inked Rocket Raccoon, The Eternals and The Fantastic Four.
Gordon left Marvel to work at DC Comics with artist/writer Scott Shaw on fan-favorite Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew. He also worked with Archie artist Stan Goldberg on fill-in issues of Captain Carrot when Scott Shaw was absent.
Briefly, he was enlisted to work on Mark Evanier and Will Meugeot’s D.N. Agents for Eclipse Comics, before returning to DC Comics on a newer incarnation of Justice League. Gordon also worked with Alan Moore on Tom Strong for DC’s imprint ABC Comics.
He was also involved with the writing, inking, editing and production on WildStar, the 5th book to be published under the Image imprint.
Gordon has been nominated for and/or received many comic industry awards, including the Will Eisner Awards and the Harvey Award.
