Alan Smith (physio)

Alan Smith (born 1950, in Middlesbrough) is a former English footballer turned physiotherapist. He is currently the physio at Aston Villa.

Smith began his career as an apprentice with his home town club, Middlesbrough, but a broken leg at just 17 years old meant that he to retire. Determined to stay within the game, he re-trained as a physiotherapist, earning his first appointment at Rotherham United in 1972. He also had spells at Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday, and Blackburn Rovers before taking the job at the Villa. He also spent some time as the physio for the England team.
