Albany Twilight League
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Albany Twilight League, based in and around Albany, NY, is an amateur baseball league founded in 1930 by George Elwell. Two former Major Leaguers, Matty Fitzgerald and Ed Phelps, along with James Ronin and William Louden were all members of the first league commission. Claude Tibbitts became president of the league in 1931, which is when it began it's first competitive season. The league consisted of 10 teams at that time. The Legendary Schuylers, managed by Charlie Callahan, were the first league champions.
Currently, the league president is Bill Miles. Bruce Barkevich is the vice president.
Multiple Major League Baseball players have played in the Albany Twilight League. Billy Harrell, Gary Holle, Dan Peltier, Hipolito Pena, John Cerutti, Glen Barker, Tony Fossas and Mickey Brantley all played in the league at one point. Minor leaguers Chris Salamida and Doug Drumm played in the league as well.
