[edit] Smurfs?

Perhaps I'm too young, but the smurfs? Did they think Gargamel was on the good side? I know Papa Smurf does magic as well, but are there any sources for this? -Cleo 23:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Yu-Gi-Oh! promoted Satanism?

I'm not so sure if it did because I have not seen any complaints from Religious groups about the series. I can't even find a headline where it talks about it promoting Satanism? So I don't think it promoted Satanism.--Hundred-Man 02:03, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Brian Wilson

from http://www.magonia.demon.co.uk/arc/90/satanupdate.html :

former Beach Boy Brian Wilson tells a story [of being abused by Satanists as a child], denied by other family members, that only emerged after counselling by a dubious therapist

hence the inclusion on the See Also list, I suppose. Not quite within the article's purview, though, since it's actually "allegations of Satanism by a generator of popular culture", but then again, it is the "See Also" list. I'll leave it to others to decide whether this means it should return or stay out. -- Antaeus Feldspar 23:13, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

  • When the anon added it, I assumed there were people alleging that Brian Wilson left Satanic messages in Beach Boys songs (Hey, I've heard odder things...). That he claims he is a victim of Satanic ritual abuse is another matter, and should be mentioned in that article rather than this one.--Pharos 23:51, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Listen to the song "Our Prayer" on Smile and you'll pretty much figure out the man was not a satanist. Out of all the musicians in the world, AC/DC, Led Zepelin, Marylin Manson, why Brian Wilson? Do you have any real evidence besides a crackjob's webpage? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.215.101.71 (talk • contribs).

Well, if you had read what was written, you would have seen that that the "crackjob's webpage" says is not "Brian Wilson is or was a satanist", but that Brian Wilson alleged that he had been the victim of Satanists as a child. -- Antaeus Feldspar 16:45, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More development, please

This article has the potential to explore a facet of modern culture. What it lacks is detail, a discussion on why some people/companies/products are accused of Satanism, examples of how some people who have been falsely accused made light of the thing (e.g., the whole "Paul is Dead" thing from the Beatles), and court cases revolving around the issue. I think there was a heavy metal band sometime in the early nineties that got sued because christian fundamentalists accused them of urging kids to commit suicide using backward masking. If I'm not mistaken, the band won the lawsuit. With a little more development, this could become a great exploration of Western cultural fears regarding satanism, and the tendency to use that label as a weapon. Wandering Star 03:08, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Church Lady as parody

I know that the SNL character of The Church Lady had a comedic schtick of suggesting Satan's responsibility for this and that or the other thing, frequently involving popular culture, but is the character worth mentioning here as demonstration that such allegations had become so frequent as to become a target for such parody? -- Antaeus Feldspar 17:09, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Additional recommendation

When this is more developed, I think it might be good to point out that, in fact, Satanism is not illegal in the US and is, in fact, protected by the first amendment. I don't know about anyone else, but I've been bewildered by all the times court cases have erupted over the supposed corruption of youth by various things by various personaged who seem to have no problems whatsoever with potentially unethically indoctrinating impressionable children in Sunday School. 144.160.98.31 06:46, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What does Objectivism have to do with Satanism?

Objecitivism is listed under "Associated concepts"

  • LeVey-style satanism doesn't have so much to do with evil as it does with "enlightened self-interest," read their seven statements and I think the connection to objectivism becomes fairly clear. 69.210.54.31 20:17, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Ketchup Song?!

Why is Asereje listed as an example of Satanism in popular music?! Is someone having a laugh? Pennywisepeter

  • Because it IS an example of allegations of Satanism in popular culture; at least they widely said it was a satanic song with hidden meanings (in the aserejé, ja, dejé bit) in South America. For something in english, go here. For spanish evidence, just google "Aserejé" and "satánico". Also, should I add Dragon Ball Z, RBD, and Miranda! as allegations? They were also targets to christian paranoia here; not hard to find the allegations. --Roberto C. Guión 19:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arguments of Satanic refferences?

Should the article's title not say "Allegations of Satanic Refferences"? Because the religion of Satanism has nothing to do with the Christian Satan.
