Americans who are/were members of Evangelical Churches (e.g. the Evangelical Church (formerly The Evangelical Association), the Evangelical Free Church of America, the Evangelical Synod of North America, the Evangelical Covenant Church, etc.).
This is to be distinguished from Americans who happen to be Evangelical Christians of whatever denomination. This is also to be distinquished from Americans who are members of other denominations which happen to have the word "Evangelical" in their name (such as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, etc.). Each of these have separate categorizations.
