I created this stub yesterday. I've named it after the association's acronym, as an article called American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena seems a bit long to me. But I've since noticed a lot of other paranormal society and association articles have their group's full name. Should this article follow this trend? --Careax 17:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletion

I don't understand why this article has been nominated for speedy deletion when many other articles about smaller organizations in this, and numerous other, fields are not deleted. There seems to be a lack of consistency here. Can it be changed from a speedy deletion request to a regular one, so that some consideration is given? --Careax 16:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

If you see articles on other organizations that aren't notable and meet the criteria for speedy deletion, feel free to nominate them. WP:ORG says "A company, corporation, organization, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works, the source of which is both: independent of the company, corporation, organization or group itself, or of the product's or service's manufacturer or vendor, and reliable." If you feel the organization is notable, demonstrate it by citing multiple non-trivial published works about it. --Milo H Minderbinder 17:01, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Upon further research, there is evidence to suggest the AA-EVP is notable. A simple search on Google brings up about 10,200 hits, and the group is mentioned in The Scotsman newspaper. I guess it depends on your definition of 'notable', but I'd say both of those two factors make the group notable, for better or for worse. --Careax 17:26, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I've added a claim to notability and removed the speedy tag. I have three books on the subject sitting on my desk and whenever any of them discuss EVP they reference AA-EVP or one of their members. That's 3 out of 3 books on my desk. The only organization more notable then AA-EVP in the USA is probably TAPS. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 18:03, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The non-profit organization is listed in several books pertaining to parapsychology, including the Encyclopedia of Occultism & Parapsychology edited by J. Gordon Melton Gale Research, ISBN 0-8103-5487-X

Google Book Search has them listed in no less than 188 books (and Google Book Search is not considered to be all that comprehensive). How many published sources do you need?

Actually, your google search is for books with those words but not necessarily in order. The [correct google search] shows seven books. Do those books meet WP:RS? --Milo H Minderbinder 18:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

You missed the The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ghosts and Hauntings with that version (it has an extra dash in it), and yes, I believe they do meet the WP:RS guidelines, especially the ones that are published by major publishing companies... like the Complete Idiot's Guide. The big one that I mentioned is the Encyclopedia of Occultism & Parapsychology, however. It's published by the Thomson_Gale Group, one of the foremost publishing companies of Association directories. --Nealparr ^{(yell at me|for what i've done)} 01:11, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

There you go... I added the basic citation templates. I didn't add the publishers... but I can if you want. None of the books were published by a vanity publisher and all three were found at Barns and Noable or Boarders. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 19:28, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
