Angelo "Sonny" Mercurio (born Boston 1936, died Little Rock, Arkansas, December 11, 2006) was a former member of the Patriarca crime family.
Mercurio was an FBI informant from 1987 to 1989. [1]
In 1989 Mercurio helped bring down the Patriarca crime family. Primarily this involved Mercurio bugging a mob induction ceremony for the first time, leading to the prosecution and conviction of dozens of criminals.
This fact came to light during the trial of New England crime boss Frank Salemme, with the result that Mercurio was subsequently placed in the federal Witness Protection Program.
