Anna Fotyga

Anna Elżbieta Fotyga (born 12 January 1957) is a Polish economist, politician, former Member of the European Parliament and since 9 May 2006 foreign minister of Poland in the succesive cabinets of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jarosław Kaczyński. She is Poland's first woman Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Fotyga is a graduate of international trade in Gdańsk University and the Danish School of Public Administration.
- In 1981 and after 1989 she was the manager of the Foreign Office of the Solidarity headquarters in Gdańsk and close collaborator of Lech Kaczyński.
- From 1997-2001, she was an adviser for foreign affairs under the Polish prime minister Jerzy Buzek.
- Later she was deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board of Social Security Office (Zakład Ubezpieczen Spolecznych, ZUS) and an expert of International Labour Organization (Międzynarodowa Organizacja Pracy), and the World Bank.
- From 2002 to 2004, she was deputy mayor of Gdańsk.
In the European elections of 13 June 2004 she was a candidate of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość in constituency #1 Pomeranian Voivodship and received 25,994 votes (second best result in the region).
On May 9, 2006 Anna Fotyga was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland by President Lech Kaczyński, replacing Stefan Meller.
