[edit] Quellung Reaction
The Quellung Reaction is a serological identification test used to distinguish between encapsulated and non-encapsulated bacterial serotypes.
The test involves mixing a suspension of a bacterial culture (eg. Bordetella pertussis) with indian ink on a slide, covering the slide with a cover slip and taking a look at it under the microscope.
Positive tests will exhibit a swelling of the capsule surrounding the bacterial cell. Negative tests will not exhibit any swelling. In both situations the indian ink will be excluded from the capsule and encapsulated cells are seen as rods or cocci within "halos" surrounded by the dark indian ink.

[edit] Colin Blumenau
Colin Blumenau is a British actor and director. He is best known for playing police officer PC 'Taffy' Edwards in The Bill.
He is now Theatre Director of the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds (Currently undergoing an 18 month restoration appeal to return the auditorium to its original Georgian splendour).
Recently he came under some criticism when he prevented the Theatre Royal's Youth Theatre from performing a musical during their annual Summer School. His reasoning being that he felt the group would be better suited at doing straight plays with a dramatic edge. Many people believe that the Youth Theatre members should be allowed to select their own genres and plays as opposed to having one ascribed to them by a third party.
However, Colin remains a widely respected member of the community, providing a variety of theatrical pieces every season. He is probably most respected for the annual Bury St. Edmunds pantomime, which he directs ever year. These pantomimes are widely believed to be amongst the best in the country for their entertainment value, subtle mix of adult and young humour, their ingenuity and their innovation (The 2005 pantomime, Robinson Crusoe, was performed in a Big Top Tent, due to the restorzation work, complete with acrobatic monkeys and trapeze dances).

[edit] jota
Jota, traditional Spanish courtship dance, and the songs associated with it. The jota is most closely associated with northern Spain, specifically the region of Aragón. In this dance, couples face each other and always begin with the same opening step. The man chooses and executes one of 40 established steps and the woman repeats his step in the opposite direction. The dancers traditionally wear flat, rope-soled shoes and accompany their steps with the music of castanets and tambourines. The movements consist of light jumps and kicks to the side, the front, and the back, with a break in the middle of the dance called the estribillo. The music is in • or – time and is often complemented with songs known as coplas, which sometimes deal with love and life, but as often are noted for their robust humor. The singing can be improvised, with participants at the dance taking up verses of four or seven eight-syllable lines.
The jota is said to have been taken from the Spanish region of Valencia to Aragón by an exiled Moorish poet of the 12th century, Aben Jota. It may have begun as a dance performed at funerals and called canari, evolving later into a dance of love. Today, the sexually expressive jota style danced in Aragón, the jota aragonesa, differs greatly from its counterpart from Valencia, the jota valenciana, which is traditionally performed at the funerals of children. The jota is danced throughout Spain, including the Basque provinces. It was taken by Spanish settlers to Mexico, where it has evolved into the exotic jarana scarf dance.

[edit] Smoking in Bars/Restaurants: Good or Bad?
--While some support smoking in bars and restaurants, many others don't. The chance to ban smoking forever in restaurants is taking place now and their are many feelings about it. One man says, "stores sell cigarettes, i buy them, i go to a bar and have a drink and a nice smoke. It's legal and nobody cares. Why are they all freaked out about a couple of guys smoking. It ain't gonna kill them." However, Percy Jackson would say otherwise, "I work for the American Cancer Society and I know all about secondhand smoke. It causes all kinds of diseases to people out there who don't even smoke! It's like smokers dont even care about anybody else except themselves. It's okay for them to kill themselves by smoking but the fact that they are killing people who may not have even touched a cigarette in their life...it's just horrible to think about." The debate for the smoking issue continues on...

[edit] Pseudotachylyte
Pseudotachylyte forms during coseismic slip and thus records individual fault movements. Constraining P-T conditions of pseudotachylyte formation gives knowledge of the fault environment during seismicity. In order to quantitatively determine the temperature during pseudotachylyte formation, we have applied two different types of geothermometers to microlitic (hornblende ± andesine-labradorite+magnetite) pseudotachylytes from the Outer Hebrides Fault Zone. These pseudotachylytes have average bulk chemistries that are broadly andesitic in composition.
The first geothermometer (O'Hara 2001) measures the thermodynamic melting efficiency using clast concentration, which reflects brittle wear processes during frictional melting. It uses an equation relating wear to melt ratios (W/M), ambient crustal temperature, and melt temperature. The second geothermometer is based on amphibole-quartz-plagioclase equilibria, using the equations from Blundy and Holland (1990).
Applying GIS digitizing methodology to thin section photomicrographs from seven samples, we measured the total area of clasts (n=8776) and the area of the pseudotachylyte matrix. W/M ratios range from 0.10 to 0.40, averaging 0.20 ± 0.08 (1s). Assuming a melt temperature of ~820°C, ambient country rock temperatures are 581 ± 89°C, corresponding to a maximum of 23 ± 3.6 km for the depth of formation using 25°C/km. Using electron microprobe analyses we applied the amphibole-plagioclase geothermometer to adjacent primary microlites in the pseudotachylyte matrix. Using 23 km depth yields an average crystallization temperature of 708 ± 84°C.
These data are substantiated by the presence of plastically deformed pseudotachylytes and pseudotachylyte veins crosscut by mylonites indicating moderate crustal levels of formation. Our results show a relatively small temperature contrast between the ambient crustal and crystallization temperatures; this explains in part the presence of large microlites (up to 400 mm) and the absence of glass and vesicles. Our results show the Outer Hebrides Fault Zone was at least intermittently seismically active at 23 ± 3.6 km depth.

[edit] sunnie raja
A king of small village in india. He was a great king who ruled the village for over 18 years from the day he was born.
Sidetalking was a marketing ploy tried by Nokia to increase the sales of it's N-gage mobile phone. To say this back fired was to put it kindly.
Side talking made you look like a total show off and on top of that you were showing off a massive mobile phone when having the smallest phone was what it was all about. On top of that because of were the microphone was placed you were forced to sidetalk.
The Nokia website put it this way "There are thoughts that side talk and there are those that don't".
In the end the N-gage was replaced with the smaller and better-designed N-gage QD. This phone had many advantages the most useful being that you were no longer forced to side talk.

In 1997,Jack Horkeimer's hit five-minute astronomy show,Star Hustler became Star Gazer. The reason for the name change is that, when people were looking for the show's website on different search engines, they didn't find the hustler they were looking for. The word hustler simply doesn't mean what it did 20 years ago.

[edit] Halacha Yomis
The Halacha Yomis Program (or, Halacha Yomit, as it is known in Israel) is a learning program which covers the entire Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim followed by the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. The cycle takes about 4 years to complete. Every day, Jewish participants, study 3 se’ifim (subsections) of Shulchan Aruch or 5 se’ifim of Kitzur. Kitzur Shulchan Aruch is is covered in addition to Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim to include the generally applicable halachos not included in Orach Chaim.
[edit] History
The Halacha Yomis was started circa 1950 by Rabbi Yonah Stencl, under the guidance of many Orthodox Jewish leaders of the time, including the Chazon Ish. The Halacha Yomis, and the Mishna Yomis (also started at about the same time) were launched in the memory of the six miilion Jews that were murdered in the Holocaust.
