Ashby is an underground station in the MARTA rail system. The area it serves was an important mini-downtown from the 1880s until the 1950s centered on West Hunter (now MLK Dr.) and Ashby (now Joseph Lowery). As of 2006, it is somewhat on the rebound sporting two family-owned diners and a short walk to the campus of Morehouse College. Condominiums are under construction adjacent to the station. As of April 2006 2,145 daily fares were collected at the gates.
