Talk:ASME Y14.41-2003
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The greatest difficulty facing wide adoption of 'Y14.41 is the lack of a standardized interface. Leaving the interaction to software vendors, 'Y14.41 fails to provide a uniform description to the users of same.
Also, one cannot use a '14.41 compliant 3D model to inspect a part with total assurance that every tolerance has been validated. Similarly, when a part has a tolerance that has been exceeded, there is no standard way to identify the failed feature or the failed tolerance. One cannot bundle a 3D description and send it to a vendor based on the '14.41 standard.
It is unlikely that any major vendor offers a 'Y14.5 compliant version, much less a useable 'Y14.41 version.
Reference platforms against which implementations are validated are essential for either standard to be closely followed or be particularly valuable. This was already established by a GIDEP against CMM software and remains to be established for '14.5 and '14.41.
[edit] meaning of nn
I do not think there is a precise definition of whaen a standard is non-notable, so if this is thought to be so, a full AfD discussion would be needed. The explanation given is unsuported opinion. DGG 23:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
