Asthmatic Kitty is an American independent record label founded in 1999 by a community of musicians from Holland, Michigan. Some were Holland natives, and others had come to attend local colleges and universities. While the original Holland nucleus has dispersed across the country, the fellowship is still growing, with new friends and shared projects with other independent labels. Asthmatic Kitty is now based in Lander, Wyoming, Indianapolis, Indiana and New York City.
The label's name is attributed variously to Sara, a pregnant stray afflicted with feline asthma, to three cats Sara, Millie, and Tabby, or to no specific cat but an in-joke based on the name of the ailment.
