Aviazione Ausiliara per la Marina

The Aviazione Ausiliara per la Marina (A.A.M.) (Italian Navy Air Service) was the air section of Règia Marina during World War Two. The unit was comparable in functions to the British Fleet Air Arm (FAA), American U.S. Navy air service, Russian naval air service Morskaya Aviatsiya and Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service Teikoku Kaigun Koku Hombu.your name until 1933 was 'Aviazione della Règia Marina' (Royal Naval Aviation),later changed to present name until 1943.
This unit provided some services of close support for naval land units, reconnaissance, transport, convoy escort, but in case of precise land bombings, torpedo air strikes, air fighting support was provided by Règia Aeronautica units also. A.A.M. was detached with Règia Marina in combat fronts and occupied territories through the war.
A.A.M. used the same types of hydroplanes as other Règia Aeronautica units, so A.A.M. collaborated with them. A.A.M. was providing some land-based air protection with a limited number of fighter interceptor groups from airfields at naval bases or in occupied territories. Such air service was led the Navy Airborne unit San Marco marines of the Règia Marina that trained at the Tarquinia and Viterbo Parachute Schools, including underwater specialist sabotage training. They had NP (Noutatori Paracadutisti) emblem on their military designated badge and collaborated with Règia Aeronautica Airborne section.
+Navy was indeed to created embarked Air Corps inside of its own air service+, for its projected Carriers and Catapult-Escort vessels for reinforcing its units in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas. Other planes assigned to A.A.M. were reconnaissance hydroplanes from the undersea carrier "Ettore Fieramosca", amongst many, providing air-sea support to joint Règia Aeronautica/Règia Marina special CANT.Z 511-Maiale operation against Port of New York, but such projects was later cancelled through the conflict.
