Avshalom Vilan

Avshalom (Abu) Vilan (born February 11 1951), is a member of the Israeli Knesset, of the Meretz-Yachad party.
Vilan was born in Kibbutz Negba. He served as a sergent in the Israeli Defence Forces in Sayeret Matkal. He is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with degrees in economics and philosophy. In his early years, Vilan played for the Hatzor volleyball team, in the national league.
In 1978 he was of the non-governmental organization, Peace Now. In 1990 he was elected as a secratery of Mapam.
He is referred to affectionately by Labor/Zionist members as "Abu". Abu Vilan is a resident of Kibbutz Negba.
