[edit] Congratulations

Great work Husond! I just can't believe that in three days we have built up the basics of the WikiProject and Portal. It's just the beginning but looks all very promising. --Sugaar 22:15, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Columns "gone mad"

I can't see where the error may be but after the last in-box edits the right columns have moved out of their place. I've tried re-editing the categories box (the last thing I changed before I noticed it) and resizing the Donostia bay pic to 150px... but have no effect. Husond: can you check why that may be? --Sugaar 10:32, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Everything looks fine to me.--Húsönd 17:17, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I've made some changes to the portal and resized the picture. Tell me how it looks now.--Húsönd 17:51, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't know: it looks perfect now. I'm perplex. --Sugaar 11:55, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal is "fully navigable" now...

... shouldn't it be recategorized from "under construction" to Geography:Europe or something like that? Please discuss. --Sugaar 11:57, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

There's still a lot to be done, so it's preferable to keep it categorized in portals unders construction. In fact, the portal can't even be listed in the list of portals until it's completed or very close to completion. Don't worry, a couple more days and everything will be in order. :-)--Húsönd 16:26, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm not worried. Just thought: hey, all links are fully navigable, that's waht in theory defines a finished portal. I agree that it can be improved significatively but it looks very well already. --Sugaar 06:55, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Why, indeed. :-) Good work, feel free to categorize. Regards.--Húsönd 12:13, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Soon... if I don't get blocked or whatever. I'm right now too involved in a dispute with certain new user of racist tenedencies with mutual accusations (also involving other users) in WP:PAIN and WP:RFI all around the page White people (that once I wanted as disambiguation page).
Right now I'm too busy with that. --Sugaar 01:09, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal template

We need one of those portal templates. Guess just need to be copied from another one, mutatis mutandis. Too tired to do it now. --Sugaar 00:56, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Are you referring to this? {{portal|Basque}} will do the trick. I'll add a few to related articles.--Húsönd 02:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Excellent! I have seen them though in the infobox (bottom) when it exists. How do I do that? I'll try to find out. --Sugaar 14:38, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Found it: it's in the "series" templates. So we may wnt to adress that later on as the WikiProject expands. --Sugaar 14:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected article/biography/image

I suggest to renew them on monthly or bi-monthly bases maybe, selecting among the proposed ones the one that has strongest support and starting right now in this first week of December (we already have some good candidates, see: Portal:Basque/Selected content candidates). --Sugaar 23:39, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

No objections, but there's actually some proposals who I'd feel sorry if turned down because one of them would get more support. I had initially expected the selected content to last 2 weeks- one month, but if this flux of proposals continues I also do not object a more frequent substitution of the content.--Húsönd 00:50, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Take it easy: we may well be exausting the ammount of good items on Basque theme. It may be a nominating fashion that soon dries out for lack of alternatives. Keep some of them in reserve. I suggest a monthly renovation, so everybody has enough time to see the stuff.
If one proposal gets more support for December the other(s) will still be available for January, February, etc.
If good articles and pics keep appearing and the nomination list gets crowded, I would agree with faster renewal but by the moment I fear it could be unrealistic. --Sugaar 04:25, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
I do agree that we might run out of good articles to select. But still, we can always change back to articles/pics/biographies that had been selected before. Portals are flexible. :-) --Húsönd 01:07, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
You know better than I do about that, but still I think that 1 week is a really short period. --Sugaar 21:36, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree. Just a while ago I was thinking of a pool system to drop all the candidates and lenghten/reduce the periodicity of changing the selected content according to the number of articles in the pool. Or perhaps we could just establish a period such as two weeks, or one month. What do you think?--Húsönd 22:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean by pool system. Personally I'm for a month, which seems long enough as for diverse people to see the same thing and, at the same time it's not too long either. If the waiing list (of supported articles/pics) becomes too long, we can reduce the period to one week or so. Inversely, if we see we have not enough good articles/pics, we can lenghten the period or re-post old selected ones. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sugaar (talkcontribs) 18:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC).
Ok, better go for the month. Next changes in January then, if there are no objections.--Húsönd 21:35, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reform of the selected content rotation system

In order to have Portal:Basque promoted to feature, we need to establish a better defined rotation system for the selected content. This is what I propose as an advanced and precise selection policy:

  • Pictures, articles, biographies, etc., that are nominated for selection must be placed on Portal:Basque/Selected content candidates for community consideration.
  • They must be under consideration for a period of no less than 5 days, during which users shall support/oppose/comment on it.
  • After the 5-day period, any Portal:Basque maintainer shall close the discussion with either approved or rejected. Nominations that are rejected are simply removed from the page.
  • To be approved, content must have at least a 75% approval rate.
  • When replacing the selected content, a maintainer must schedule/re-schedule all the remaining approved content. Schedule should follow this rotation system:
    • 1 approved remaining -> to be scheduled on a monthly basis
    • 2-3 approved remaining -> all to be scheduled on a bi-weekly basis
    • more than 3 approved remaining -> all to be scheduled on a weekly basis
    • (example: a maintainer replaces a selected picture on February 1st and notices there is just one approved picture in the queue. He/she shall schedule that one to March 1st (following a monthly basis). On March 1st, while replacing the pics again, he/she notices that there are three approved pictures in the queue. Those are to be scheduled to March 15th, April 1st and April 15th (following a bi-weekly basis).)

Please comment on this policy for the portal. Thank you.--Húsönd 22:53, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed ammendments

Ammendment 1: Approval

  • To be approved, content must have at least 2/3 support and at least one support vote other than the propponent.

Logic: sometimes maybe only three votes are casted. 100% support only from the proponent is not sufficient.

Ammendment 2: Approval, Rejection or In Wait

    • After the 5-day period, any Portal:Basque maintainer can close the discussion with either approved or rejected. If the proposal has a majority of favorable votes but does not reach the approval threshold, it will be kept for up to a month in wait of further votes, when, if it hasn't reached the approval threshold, it will be rejected. Nominations that are rejected are simply removed from the page.

Logic: 5 days is maybe a little to short period sometimes. Specially if the participation is low for whatever reason.

Ammendment 3: Rotation period

  • (..) Schedule should be monthly-based unless:
    • The queue is longer than 5 items, in which case it will be bi-weekly until the queue falls under the 5 items limit.
    • The queue is longer than 10 items, in which case it will be weekly until the queue falls under the 10 items limit.

Logic: it's always good to have reserve items. We can easily run out of material if we hurry too much. Also it's surely good that sponsored articles are for long enough for people to read/watch them (a week is definitively quite short).

My opinions. --Sugaar 07:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree with amendments 1 and 2, but I believe that amendment 3 lenghthens the rotation system far too much. It would have us schedule 5 items for a period of 5 months, and that's way into the future. I also believe that users who would like to check out the portal would leave upon realizing that it always takes one month for something to be changed. Perhaps we can find a middle term, e.g. 1-3 items go monthly, 4-6 bi-weekly, and more than 6 weekly.--Húsönd 20:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
I can agree with that. It's a minor change: after all it's just reducing 4 to 3 and 9 to 7. --Sugaar 10:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Basque selected content rotation system

Ok, here's the agreed version of the rotation system which has now taken effect. I will modify Portal:Basque/Selected content candidates so that it conforms to the new system.

Portal:Basque selected content rotation system

  • Pictures, articles, biographies, etc., that are nominated for selection must be placed on Portal:Basque/Selected content candidates for community consideration.
  • They must be under consideration for a period of no less than 5 days, during which users shall support/oppose/comment on it.
  • To be approved, content must have at least 2/3 support and at least one support !vote other than the proponent.
  • When replacing the selected content, a maintainer must schedule/re-schedule all the remaining approved content. Schedule should follow this rotation system:
    • 1-3 approved remaining -> to be scheduled on a monthly basis;
    • 4-6 approved remaining -> all to be scheduled on a bi-weekly basis;
    • more than 6 approved remaining -> all to be scheduled on a weekly basis;
