Bat Mastersons

The Bat Mastersons is an American rock band, formed in Dallas, Texas in 1989. Their most famous and longest-lasting line up was composed of songwriter/bassist Byron Lord, guitarist/singer Timothy Holiday, lead guitarist Rex Ewing and drummer David DiPietro.
The band first came in to prominence in the early 1990's in Dallas' Deep Ellum district after performing their first live show at the then infamous ecstacy/dance club, The Starck. By 1991 the band had established themselves as one of the premier live acts in Dallas, playing to packed houses on a regular basis in the Deep Ellum area. Bands who opened for the Bats at this time include Tripping Daisy and Edie Brickell and New Bohemians. In 1991, they signed with the then fledgling record label, Dragon Street Records and entered the studio.
The release of their self-titled debut was an instant success, breaking into the College Music Journal's top 50, the Top 10 on French radio and eventually earning the band, first place in the Best Alternative Act category of the Dallas Observer Music Awards in 1991. Their single "Wishing Well" was in constant rotation on local airwaves and was featured as the opening cut on the KDGE-FM Dallas compilation, "Tales From the Edge Vol. 1."
Following the success of their CD, the band embarked on its first North American tour, playing alongside acts such the Spin Doctors, the Call and the Rave-Ups. The tour included shows at such notable venues as Woody's in New York City, the Forty Watt club in Athens, GA and Tippatina's in New Orleans. The band rounded out that initial tour with a performance co-headlining the first KDGE-FM Dallas' Birthday Bash along with local heroes, the Reverend Horton Heat and San Diego's the Origin.
In 1993 the band's single, "Do You Love Me?" was featured on "Tales From the Edge Vol. 7" and also received considerable airplay in the Southern US market. The following year, after serveral personnel changes, the remaining members (Tim Holiday being the only original left at this point) decided to disband. In early 1998, original founding members once again joined forces, playing many superb shows locally as well as around the US. But as recording sessions proceeded for a new album in August '99, internal friction involving both musical and personal issues once again arose, leading to guitarist Ewing's departure, thus ending the band. In 2005, the Bat Mastersons re-formed with ex-Novachrome guitarist, Craig Reeves and headlined the Wildflower Festival with Bowling for Soup and Johnny Lang, as well as State Fair of Texas alongside Dallas' own Lisa Loeb.
The 4 songs the reconstituted band had already recorded were distributed to longtime fans via the band's website (http://www.batmastersons.com) and one of the songs, "Inmate" was featured on the indie compilation, "Eat Your Vegetables."
