[edit] The Junior Team
[edit] Overview
The Junior Team was created in 1902[1] and restructured in 1995[2] has created some of Germany's top football talent, such as Andreas Ottl, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Bastian Schweinsteiger. There are 165 players, 16 instructors and managers, 1 physiotherapist and 1 masseur.[1] Rosters remain unchanged while the kids learn their trade whether it be for goalkeeper, defence, midfield or forward. They are trained for no more than 1 or 2 positions.[3]
The vision for the Junior Team is "to educate young players so that it will be possible for FCB to keep a global position in club football in the next millennium and it's mission is "to have the best youth development in club football."[4]

Due to the competitive nature of sport, Bayern Munich has scouts all over the world. However, most of the scouting happens within a few hours from Munich.[3]
[edit] Talent Days
As part of the restructuring and to help find players for the Junior Team, Bayern Munich has developed a talent day where upto 500 boys are scouted. The Talent Days last an entire weekend. The key points that are looked for at the event are heart and soul along with movement and Coordination. The format that is used is Street football which is able to show how the players conduct themselves during a game. Players who are chosen are players who meet the requirements above along with where the family lives. Bayern Munich don't accept players who don't live near Munich. Every kid gets a report from the club. 7 kids is about average amount that make a Bayern Munich Junior Team.[3]

The penultimate stage for youngsters at Bayern is Bayern Munich II, who currently play in the third tier, of German football.

- Bayern Munich Junior Team uses a 4-3-3 formation system from D Juniors and upwards.[1]
- Talented young players from overseas are offered accommodation in a youth apartment block with 13 single rooms inside the club grounds on Säbener Straße.[1]
- The ll youth teams wear the same Adidas uniforms as the professional team with the only difference being a Junior Team logo, designed by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge himself, on the sleeve where the first team bears the Bundesliga logo. [3]
- The facility arrangement at FCB is unique as compared to some other high profile clubs, such as at Manchester United and Ajax of Amsterdam, in that both the first team and the youth teams train at the same location.[2]
