Belarusian Hockey League
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eleven teams took part in the Belarus Open Championship (League) in 2006-2007. They were Brest, Dinamo, Gomel, Keramin, Khimik-SKA, Khimvolokno, Metallurg Zhlobin, Neman, Sokol Kyiv, Vitebsk, Yunost. Dinamo beat Keramin in the finals.
Belarussian hockey league contained a mere four teams : Dynamo Minsk (which changed its name to Tivali Minsk), Plymir Novopolock and a fourth participant Neman Grodno, who were the overall winners. The tournament system (how many times the teams played each other, the structure, etc.) changed many times but the winner always remained the same - Tivali Minsk. At this point in time, two new ice rinks were built in Belarus; one in Grodno and another in Novopolock. The number of ice rinks increased to four. The government did not render much assistance in the development of ice hockey. The hockey schools in Grodno and Novopolock played only at the junior hockey levels in the late 90's; neither had a senior squad.
Encouragement was offered by Tivoli Minsk, which played on the international scene. They played repeatedly in the EHL (European Hockey League) and achieved 5th place in 1995.
