Bellwald is a municipality in the district of Goms in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
It lies at 1600 m and has a population of 450. It is the highest village in Goms, or the upper Rhône River valley. The village lies extremely sunny exposed on the slopes of the mount Risihorn. In the winter season, it is a very pleasant small scale skiing resort. During summertime, it is a place to walk. All year round the panorama of the Alps is astonishing.
Farming is declining, tourism is taking its place. The inhabitants of Bellwald are called "Hase", which in German means "bunny". The legend has it that the inhabitants got this name because of their speed while screwing, which was despised in most of the Rhone Valley. Locals attribute their urge to "get things done" to the thin air.
