[edit] History
Bentleigh Station opened on Monday, 19th December 1881 as East Brighton. It was later renammed to Bentleigh in 1907.
In mid 1990's Bentleigh station was upgraded into Premium Station. Previous to the works, Bentleigh closely resembled McKinnon Station. At this time, the underpass was also filled in.
--
The station has had it's pedestrian level crossing upgraded as part of the State Goverernments pledge to improve safety. Complete by the January 2007; both sides of the pedestrian railway crossing had been upgraded. The former emergency exits which had caused the loss of life by numerous at Bentleigh, have been replaced with locking gates, which are 1.5metres high, and can only be opened from one side.
Another rarity is the large signs above each gate, with the common 'red pedestrian' sign, as well as a LED light box saying "Another Train Coming" which is let when, either an express train is bound on the DOWN line, or when a train is expected after another train on the UP line.
