GLUGOT stands for GNU/Linux User Group Of TCE.
GLUGOT is a student community for the GNU/Linux users at the Thiagarajar College of Engg. The group was started on 20th December 2003 by a group of students interested in GNU, FOSS and Linux. This group is very active and has its own mailing lists. The group has a huge subscription base and a good number of experts. Some of the prominent members of the list include Mr.Joe Steeve(alumni), Mr. Senthil Kumaran(alumni), Mr.Praveen, Mr.Senthil Kumaran and Mr.Subramani.
As a part of its activities, GLUGOT organises the Software Freedom Day along with GLUG-madurai, a GNU/Linux group meant for the people of Madurai.The Software Freedom Day is celeberated as the FS'tival (stands for Free Software festival). During the FStival, some experts are invited from outside and a lecture on some modern FOSS stuff is given. Students from various colleges in and around madurai attend this function. Then later on the same day, various demo stalls are conducted by the organisers of the event. The demo stalls include installation and tools like emacs, LaTeX, glade and much more.
The other activities of GLUGOT include spreading the awareness about GNU and FOSS to all the people of the college and others as well. As a part of its activities, people from GLUGOT have gone to other colleges and established FOSS labs and have trained the students and staff there.GLUGOT has exclusive FOSS labs at its own place in TCE.They also have installed the Debian GNU/Linux distro in more than 100 systems in their college.
