EIZIE stands for Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea (Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of Basque Language).

[edit] The Association
EIZIE brings together professionals engaged in translation or interpreting from and into Basque language. The association was founded in the autumn of 1987 with the following aims:
- To improve the legal status and working conditions for Basque translators.
- To maintain the quality of translation work from and into Basque.
- To promote Basque translation.
- To improve the professional training of Basque translators.
EIZIE is member of FIT (International Federation of Translators) and of CEATL (Conseil Européen des Traducteurs Littéraires).
[edit] How EIZIE is organized
Members of the association elect the Council (8 members) every two years.
There are also some working committees organized in the several areas, as public administration and justice; freelance translators and agencies; interpreters and proofreaders; mass media; literature; training and so on.

- EIZIE encourages exchange of information among Basque translators, interpreters, and correctors.
- Gives legal advice to members concerning copyrights, taxes, agreements...
- Organizes courses and seminars
- Members receive a copy of all publications made by the association

- Senez, yearly magazine on translation theory and practise.
- Universal Literature Collection, a project to translate to Basque the master-works of the universal literature, sponsored by the Basque Government.
