[edit] in-text citations
- To add a citation to support a point in an article, just type the details (e.g. author, year, title etc) just after the point in the article. You must type <ref> before the details though and </ref> at the end - so the text of the reference is between these ref tags.
- Once you save the page the details will magically appear in a refs section at the end of the article, with only a number back at the place in the actual text.
- If the citation doesn't magically appear in a reference section at the end, there may be no refs section there! so you need to add:
==References== <div class="references-small"> <references /> </div>
- Optionally, in the reference text in the article, you can make the title a link by using [http://etc title]. Or you can add an ID number (e.g. Pubmed ID) link at the end. (or, going the other way, if you have a Pubmed ID you can use this webpage once have an ID, to auto-produce the full reference text (in a different format but just add it between ref tags as usual).
- Optionally, use <ref name="name"> for the first tag ("name" being a brief name you give) and then you can use the same reference to support another point elsewhere by just typing <ref name="name"/>

WP:NOT#BUREAUCRACY "Follow the spirit, not the letter, of any rules, policies and guidelines if you feel they conflict. Disagreements should be resolved through consensus-based discussion, rather than through tightly sticking to rules and procedures."
Administration ("From early on, it has been pointed out that administrators should never develop into a special subgroup of the community but should be a part of the community like anyone else. However, they are equipped with a few more tools to do some chores that would potentially be harmful if everyone were entrusted with them.")
Guide to Layout ("Normally, the first paragraph summarizes the most important points of the article. It should clearly explain the subject so that the reader is prepared for the greater level of detail and the qualifications and nuances that follow. If further introductory material is needed before the first section, this can be covered in subsequent paragraphs")
