Fadhlalla Haeri

Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri is a Sufi shaykh who was born in the Islamic holy city of Karbala, Iraq, a descendant of five generations of well-known and revered spiritual leaders. Educated in Europe and America, Shaykh Fadhlalla obtained undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, majoring in science and engineering. As a businessman, he established several manufacturing and consulting firms in the Middle East, primarily in the oil industry. Shaykh Fadhlalla traveled extensively, especially in India, in pursuit of the spiritual teachings of the East, before his eventual re-discovery of the pure and original Islamic heritage of his birth.
Haeri is a believed by his followers to be a master, teacher, and inheritor of the Prophetic path to divine realization. He has instructed people throughout the world on this path for over 20 years and has written numerous books on various topics concerned with the wisdom and teachings of Islam.
Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri is regarded by his followers as a bridge between the ancient wisdom teachings and our present time.
For generations Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeriās ancestors were believed to be among the greatest teachers of Islam by their followers. Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri was steeped in these traditions of worshipping and balanced living from childhood. He left his home for universities in England where he distinguished himself and obtained several degrees in business and science.
Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri, has received permission (idhn) as a Shaykh of Instruction, from numerous lines (tariqahs) of Sufic teaching including the Darqawi-Shadhili, the Chisti, and the Rifa`i to name a few. His teaching calls to the fulfillment and completion of human potential both inwardly and outwardly in a way that reflects our time yet remains faithful to the original Islamic model. This model is none other than surrender to One Reality that engenders, permeates, and encompasses all that is seen and unseen.
Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri currently resides in the Republic of South Africa, where he continues his life's work as a teacher and guide to realizing the ultimate meaning and purpose of life.
In 1979, Shaykh Fadhlalla went to the United States to establish a spiritual foundation, the Zahra Trust, to enable serious students of Islam the opportunity of acquiring its basic teachings. The Zahra Trust currently publishes a wide variety of books through its affiliate, Zahra Publications, and has established several spiritual and medical centers in Asia, Europe and South America. The American Institute of Qur'anic Studies at Bayt-ud-Deen, the U.S. base of Zahra Trust, was inaugurated in December, 1981.
