Featherweight (MMA)

The featherweight division in mixed martial arts generally groups competitors within 136 to 145 lb (61 to 66 kg). The featherweight division is popularly utilized by Pancrase; TKO, a Quebec-based promotion; U.S.-based King of the Cage; and Shooto, where it is known as the lightweight division. The featherweight limit, as defined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, is 145 lb (66 kg).[1]
Due to the lack of a featherweight division in many of the larger promotions (e.g., PRIDE and UFC), many 145-pound fighters have either moved up, or are considering moving up in weight to the lightweight division to compete. Such fighters include Mark Hominick, Urijah Faber, and Gilbert Melendez.
