I am a fire protection engineer, with 27 years of experience in a wide range of project types, including industrial, commercial, and institutional. At various times in my career, I have worked in the U.S. federal government, with architectural/engineering firms, as a private consulting engineer, and in the insurance industry.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and have passed separate Professional Engineer (PE) exams in Fire Protection Engineeering, and Mechanical Engineering. I also have experience, earlier in my career, in designing HVAC, process heat transfer, liquid transfer, and control systems. I have participated in the SFPE's efforts in the FP Professional Engineering exam reviews, and the NCEES 'cut score' activities for the FPPE.
I also have non-professional, but serious interests in physics (focusing on quantum and relativity), evolution, history (focusing on science), scientific uncertainty, and patterns in nature (e.g., complexity and chaos).
My hobbies include golf, pistol shooting, and guitar.
