Florida State Road 716
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
State Road 716 is a 4.3-mile-long east-west route in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Locally, it is called Port Saint Lucie Boulevard, or "PSL" Boulevard. Its eastern terminus is an intersection with U.S. Route 1 (SR 5). It continues over the North Fork of the Saint Lucie River; its western terminus is an interchange with Florida's Turnpike (SR 91), although signage for "East 716" can be found just north of the intersection of Port St. Lucie and Gatlin Boulevards.
Originally, the route of SR 716 extended westward from US 1 to Interstate 95 along Port Saint Lucie Boulevard and Gatlin Boulevard (formerly Savage Boulevard). As recently as 2000, a mileage sign on I-95 heading north after the interchange with Martin Highway (SR 714) listed "SR 716" as the next exit; it has since been covered over and now reads "Port St. Lucie". As of 2006, many current editions of commercially-prepared road maps incorrectly show SR 716 with its original alignment.
There has been talk on and off throughout the years of extending Port St. Lucie Boulevard south into Martin County to Martin Highway (SR 714) to alleviate traffic on the few routes into Stuart, Florida. To date, nothing has been done to that end.
