Dealing with growth
Forney I.S.D., according to The Dallas Morning News, is the fourth fastest growing school district in the state of Texas. A new middle school will open for the 2006-2007 school year. This new middle school is located in Windmill Farms. This school is where all Forney students in grades 7-8 will be located in for the year 2006-2007. The school has been finished in May 2006 and is ready for year 2006-2007. There are plans to demolish and rebuild the current middle school. This older middle school is where students in following years will attend. Though land was purchased by the district with funds from an earlier bond issue, voters denied the school district money to construct a new high school, along with several new elementary schools and a third middle school.
The bond issue was rejected by the community by a margin of almost 2-1.
Even with a soon-to-be-constructed new wing, growth projections show the Forney I.S.D. high school population out-growing the current building by the 2007-2008 school year.
School uniforms
All Forney ISD students are required to wear school uniforms [1].
The Texas Education Agency specified that the parents and/or guardians of students zoned to a school with uniforms may apply for a waiver to opt out of the uniform policy so their children do not have to wear the uniform [2]; parents must specify "bona fide" reasons, such as religious reasons or philosophical objections. Students who opt out of that policy are required to wear a strict standardized dress code. [3]
