Fred S. Engle Middle School enrolls about 900 students in grades 7-8. It is neighbored by Avon Grove High School, which houses grades 9-12. The school mascot is the Red Devil, and the school colors are maroon and gold.[1] Fred S. Engle is known for it's high Mexican-American population. It, in fact, outweighed the African-American population of the school by so much that the school was not graded on the scores of the African-American students on the PSSA test.

Fred S. Engle Middle School has many sports teams for both male and females. Such sport teams include girls field hockey, boys soccer, girls soccer, cheerleading, football, girls basketball, boys basketball, wrestling, winter cheerleading, lacrosse, track, and softball.[2] There are currently plans to have a baseball team for the 2008 school year.

Fred S. Engle Middle School has a host of intramural sports. Of which include: Fitness and wellness, girls basketball, volleyball, flag football, boys team handball, wrestling, boys lacrosse, floor hockey, girls team handball, fishing club, and boys basketball.[3]
