Talk:Fred (bicycling)

This need a rewrite to make it more encyclopedic. Also, Wikipedia is not a dictionary, so those knowledgable of this subject should add appropriate information associated with this term... -- Scientizzle 16:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
This is a superb defeninition of a ubiquitous cycling *concept*. The previous poster should read more carefully. --Toddman
- I read the article carefully and checked out the sources. I'm not a cyclist, so this was novel information. Thanks for your comment. -- Scientizzle 20:40, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Scientizzle - what sort of changes are you suggesting?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Eric.Gunnerson (talk • contribs) .
- Here are my suggestions:
- The article is over-formatted, in my opinion. It's less readible than it should be because there are six headings for what could be said in two succinct paragraphs. I'll reformat it myself to help conform better to WP:STYLE.
- The tone of the article should remain light due to the subject matter, but needn't be farcical. The "Treatment and Cures" section fits this bill. It should go.
- I will remove all 2nd Person references as per WP:STYLE#Avoid_the_second_person.
- Some of the article is obvious cut & paste from this site, and risks being a copyright violation. Say what you mean in your own words.
- Finally, to avoid violating WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_dictionary, an effort should be made by those familiar with the concept to provide more than a generalized definition. Find usage in popular cyclist media, well-publicized examples of Freds, citable etymology of the term, etc...if it really can't be expanded, this article would be more appropriate on Wiktionary. -- Scientizzle 20:40, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I should also say that I believe some of the comments about recumbent cyclists are clearly POV and have no place in an encylopedia. This isn't a forum to make fun of a group of people, light-hearted joshing or otherwise. I'll take out those comments as well. -- Scientizzle 21:04, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Scientizzle - thanks for the rewrite. I'll use it as a template for future expansion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Eric.Gunnerson (talk • contribs) .
- No problem...the article should certainly be expaned by someone more knowledgeable than I. Happy editing! -- Scientizzle 17:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
