Gabriel Morency
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gabriel Morency (born in 1970 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian sports broadcaster, who currently hosts the radio show Sports Rage on CKGM (The Team 990) in Montreal, Quebec.
Before becoming a broadcaster Morency played minor hockey and was on his way to England to play professionally but chose a career in entertainment, leading to the music business and ultimately radio. Morency was placed fourth in the Montreal Readers Poll as the biggest sports personality in the city only behind Jose Theodore, Saku Koivu and Vladimir Guerrero in 2003. Conspicuously, Gabriel has not placed in the past three polls.
Morency also writes occasionally in the Montreal Mirror, a free press newspaper.
He hosted the show Sports Weekly before joining the Team 990.
Sports Rage is known for Road Rages. In 38 months, there have been 27 Road Rages. Road Rages are shows that are made on the road where Morency and his listeners come to party. There are also guest stars that come on these Road Rages. His most famous caller is a hefty, drunk old man from Park Extension named Madness.
Morency is also the host of The Blue Line, a Montreal Canadiens postgame show and Sports Line Saturday with Gabriel Morency every Saturday night at 8 p.m.
Morency was recently suspended from Team 990 due to an internal "incident." The origins of this incident are not known. He returned from this suspension to host his regular show on June 26, 2006.
On July 10, 2006, while doing his nightly sports talk show Sports Rage he claimed he disliked Wikipedia and people who spended their time writing about him. He wondered where exactly their infatuation came from.
