Dr. Garret Macy is a fictional character on the NBC crime drama Crossing Jordan, portrayed by Miguel Ferrer.
Macy is the chief medical examiner of the Boston Police Department's coroner's office. Hehas a close working relationship with medical examiner Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy). He considers her his protegé and close friend, even as her unconventional investigative techniques and brash personality often grate on his nerves.
Macy is divorced with a teenage daughter. His relationship with his family is troubled; he is seldom on speaking terms with his ex-wife, and barely knows his daughter, who sometimes resorts to self-destructive behavior to get his attention. Macy has recently admitted to a drinking problem, after finding out his daughter, Abby, had become addicted to heroin upon dropping out of college and becoming involved with a heroin dealer. In the episode "Death Toll," Macy revealed that he had a son, Abby's twin brother, who lived only six hours. He has never told Abby about him.
In the Season 4 finale, Macy revealed that he withheld evidence regarding a case that tore everyone in the morgue apart. It is an open question whether he will remain on the show.
[edit] Behind the scenes
Beginning as the typical "angry boss" character, Macy soon evolved into the second main character of Crossing Jordan; during Hennessy's absence from the show due to her pregnancy, most of the personal storylines focused on Macy and his family and relationship problems.
