Gentry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 6,861. Its county seat is Albany6. The county was organized in 1845 and is named after Col. Richard Gentry of Boone County, Missouri who fell in the Seminole War in 1837.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,274 km² (492 mi²). 1,273 km² (492 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it (0.06%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 6,861 people, 2,747 households, and 1,884 families residing in the county. The population density was 5/km² (14/mi²). There were 3,214 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.57% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.64% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,747 households out of which 31.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.00% were married couples living together, 7.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.40% were non-families. 29.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.00% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 23.70% from 25 to 44, 21.60% from 45 to 64, and 21.60% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $28,750, and the median income for a family was $35,933. Males had a median income of $26,365 versus $19,802 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,879. About 9.00% of families and 12.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.20% of those under age 18 and 10.30% of those age 65 or over.
