RODNEY Admiral Lord 1719-1792. He always wrote his name George Bridges Rodney. Because he had noble relatives like the Duke of Chandos whose name was Brydges, spelled with a 'y', many people spell the Admiral's middle name what way. But it is wrong and must be stopped. George Bridges Rodney went to sea in the Royal Navy as a boy and became successively Lieutenant then Captain then Rear Admiral and finally full Admiral. He is buried with his wife in St Mary's church, Old Alresford, Hampshire where he built a large house.
