Grand View Drive
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grand View Drive is a scenic road and adjacent park located in Peoria, Illinois and Peoria Heights, Illinois. The majority of the road gives an excellent view of the Illinois River and the land on both sides. It is said that President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed it the "world's most beautiful drive" during a 1910 visit.[citation needed]
It is near the birthplace of the first gasoline-powered car in America, the Duryea automobile, built in 1893 by Charles Duryea.[citation needed]
Houses along Grand View Drive are among the best known in the city; the residental area on the west of Grand View Drive, opposite the river, was added to the List of National Register of Historic Places in 1996.[1]
