The Great Western Lacrosse League, also known as the GWLL, is a NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse-only college athletic conference. The conference was created when the NCAA Lacrosse tournament instituted Automatic Qualifiers; in so doing, it eliminated the "western region" bid.
The original members were Air Force, Butler, Denver, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. However, the NCAA requires a conference to have six members for an Automatic Qualifier. Fairfield was added as a 6th member. Fairfield later left the conference and Quinnipiac joined as the new 6th member.
Bellarmine created a Men's Lacrosse team in 2006, and in 2007 joined the GWLL.
On 26 January 2007, Butler announced that it will end its Men's Lacrosse program after the 2007 season.
