Haddonfield Public Schools

The Haddonfield Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district serving students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade in Haddonfield, in Camden County, New Jersey, United States.

The district serves students from the Boroughs of Haddonfield, along with those from Tavistock who attend the district's schools as part of a sending/receiving relationship. The schools are funded mostly obtained through local property taxes. While most students are residents, a small number of students are taken on a tuition or voucher basis.

The school district was facing a mild problem of the teachers/staff not having a contract, which expired in July 2006. Teachers wore T-shirts and pins to show that they didn't want to go on strike, but they wanted a contract. This was resolved in early December

The district consists of the following schools:

Elementary Schools (K-5)

Elizabeth Haddon School, Tatem School, and Central School all serve K-5. Each school has approximately 3 sections in each grade. Facilities are modern and underwent major additions several years ago. The schools all host various events around the school. All schools in Haddonfield are walkable, and many students use this as their method of getting to school.

Middle School

Haddonfield Middle School, 6th-8th

The Middle school, serving 6-8, currently has approximately 600 students. Students participate in a variety of classes and learn many skills. They participate in a variety of special classes, such as a 'Study Skills' class, in which they learn better skills for being organized. In 'Lifeskills' they learn how to deal with emotions and bullies. In Art class, they learn a variety of skills and work with many different materials, from clay to watercolor. In 'Technology,' students explore the world around them through technology. They use computers to design bridges and miniature houses. They also learn how to fly by using Flight Simulator. In 'Computer' students learn how to use a variety of computer applications to accomplish various tasks. 7 and 8 grade students also can pick a 'World Language' to study and continue in high school the languages are Spanish, German, and French, although the students underwent a survey to expand the language programs in the future.

High School

Haddonfield Memorial High School, 9th-12th

Haddonfield Memorial High School was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, the highest award an American school can receive, during the 2004-05 school year. It also has some of the highest SAT scores, some no town cannot be proud of. Last, this school has some of the best sports teams in the state with a baketball team that has won the state champs in 2006, 2005, and in 2004.^[1]

The Haddonfield Board of Education has nine uncompensated members who serve three-year staggered terms. The next non-partisan Board of Education election is in April 2007. The following people are members of the board:

Though the school board is non-partisan, many of the members are politically or professionally connected to organized labor, the Republican Party or the Democratic Party.
