Harold Clark Simmons

Harold Clark Simmons is an American businessman whose banking expertise helped him developed the acquisition concept known as the leveraged buyout (LBO) to acquire various corporations. He is the owner of Contran Corporation and Valhi, Inc. (a NYSE traded company about 90% controlled by Contran).[1] With an estimated current net worth of around $4.1 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 61-richest person in America.

In 1997 Simmons made a $5 million investment in T. Boone Pickens, Jr. first fund BP Capital Energy Commodity Fund, by 2005 this had grown to $150 million. [2]

He helped finance George Bush's 2004 inaugural ball with a $100,000 donation, also helped boost Mr. Bush's re-election with $4 million to Swift Vets and POWs for Truth [3]

Gave the money to help fund the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment at UT. He has previously given to UT athletic programs and the McCombs School of Business, as well as to the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas
