What does it mean to say that he had a "humanistic" education? All modern education is humanistic, unless you go to a madrassah or a yeshiva. What does this mean in an Austrian context? Adam 05:34, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- In the German speaking world, there are three traditional branches in secondary education:
- humanistic: specialises in ancient languages (Latin, Greek)
- modern languages: specialises in those
- mathematical-scientific
- I for one went to a modern languages one. Hehe. Nowadays there are some more forms of specialization, like schools specializing in sports. --Nikai 09:51, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)
OK, thanks for explaining that. Since this is an English-language encyclopaedia, that sense of the term is not clear to readers and needs to be explained. In Britain it would be called a Classical education, in the US I suspect it would be unknown. So you have to write an article called Humanistic education (Germany) or German education system or something similar, or else say "humanistic education (one specialising in ancient languages)." - Yes, but I think an appropriate place to link instead would be Gymnasium (school). This will only take to translate the paragraph from de:Gymnasium which explains these branches. --Nikai 10:45, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Link to benita.at
I don't think it necessary that an article has an external link to a political opponent, in this case Benita Ferrero-Waldner, especially if the linked page doesn't provide any crucial informations about Heinz Fischer; if anybody is interested in Benita Ferrero-Waldner, she is mentioned in the article and a link to her homepage can be found in her article. --FermatSim 16:12, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)
