107.9 Home FM is an Independent Local Radio station owned by The Local Radio Company. It was launched by Minster Sound Radio Group PLC as Huddersfield FM in October 1999. The station was bought by Radio Investments Limited and GWR in November 1999, then completely by Radio Investments (now The Local Radio Company) in December 2000. The studios are located in Lockwood Park Huddersfield.
The signal is relatively low power (100w vertical polorization, 100w horizontal polorization) and is broadcast from a transmitter owned by Yorkshire Electricity Distribution PLC (YEDL) at Ainley Top, near the M62. The signal power is low to protect the aircraft communication band. The RDS name is "HOME1079", the station does not broadcast RDS text.
In January 2007 the station started using a new jingle package that was produced by The Bespoke Music Company, as did many other stations owned by The Local Radio Company. To complement the new jingles, the station's strap line was changed from "music:fun:life" to "from Huddersfield, across the Pennines, our home, your station, 107.9 Home FM".
In December 2006, Stephen Naylor (Head Of News at the station) was promoted to Programme Manager after the departure of John Harding. Current presenters at the station include Paul Clark, Mike Nicholson, Chris Stevens, Fiona Faulkner and Tony Collins.
There are un-confirmed rumours that 107.9 Home FM could be sold by The Local Radio Company because of the losses the station makes each month. The Local Radio Company have revealled "stations that did not respond to profit improvement plans would be traded out of the Group" (Richard Wheatly, The Local Radio Company Chief Executive).
