Hopen, Møre og Romsdal

Hopen is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway, located in the northern part of Smøla.
It was created on 1 January 1915 when Edøy municipality was split in three to form the new municipalities Edøy, Hopen and Brattvær. At that time Hopen had a population of 1.050.
On 1 January 1960 the 1915 partition was reversed, reuniting the municipalities Brattvær, Edøy og Hopen under the new name Smøla. Before the merger Hopen had a population of 1.550.
