Icebreakers (candy)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Icebreakers is a disk-shaped mint candy currently made by The Hershey Company. They were first produced by Nabisco in 1999, then acquired by Hershey's in 2000. They come in several flavors, including peppermint, wintergreen, cinnamon, 'fruit sours' (which is made up of a mixture of 4 sour flavors - pink lemonade, apple, tangerine, and watermelon), 'berry sours' (a mix of 3 flavors: Berry Splash, Strawberry, and Raspberry-lemonade), and 'tropical sours'. The candies are generally white in color and speckled with other colors to indicate their flavor. These candies are sugar-free, instead using Sorbitol as a sweetener.
Icebreakers mints are sold in round cases, approximately 3 in (7.6 cm) in diameter and .6 in (2 cm) in height. These cases were originally made of aluminum and had two hinged plastic flaps on top, a larger one labeled "To Share" and a smaller one "Not to Share". They are now (as of around mid-2006) made entirely out of plastic, and some have only the one larger opening.
There is also a type of Icebreaker mint named "Liquid Ice". They are small, spherical gel pellets that, as they melt in your mouth, secrete a minty juice. The Liquid Ice candies are often criticized for having a somewhat bitter flavor. However, it is scientifically proven that they enhance breath more effectively than chewing regular gum because the splash of minty juice contains bacteria fighting power.
Recently debuted was the new Icebreakers brand chewing gum: Icebreakers Ice Cubes. Ice Cubes come in several flavors: peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, bubble gum, Dragonfruit Freeze, Sours (3 flavors: pink lemonade, apple and watermelon) and Berry Sours . These are gum cubes that have extra kick due to the addition of micro Liquid Ice gel pellets that are infused into each individual cube.
Another product sold under the Icebreakers name is a package that contains both mints and gum. Available flavors are Spearmint, 'Cool Mint' and Tangerine.[citation needed]
