Talk:Illinois Route 255
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] sneak preview
section from 143 to fosterberg not open as of 15 October 2006. However, most of the signs are up, but some of the more obvious signs missing are at IL 111 in Wood River. I expect the highway to open up in the next couple weeks but there has yet to be something on the Alton Telegraph.
some of the stuff I can confirm: the IL 111 Wood River exit is #8 and reads "Bethalto/Wood River", the IL 111/140 exit number was hard to read from long distance but appears to be #10 and has "Bethalto/Alton" on the sign. The Bethalto exit is a SPUI. The control cities read "Wood River"/"To I-270"/"Memphis" in the southbound lanes; "Alton"/"Godfrey" in the northbound lanes.
i won't unveil more goodies until it has opened. --Kimmy78 15 October 2006, 20:34 (CDT).
new update
The reason why trucks are banned north of IL 140 has nothing to do with the highway itself, but because trucks are banned from Fosterburg Road due to lack of Class III status. Once the segment to Seminary Road is opened next Summer (they are working to get this thing finished quickly because major work is expected to take place on Fosterburg Road sometime in 2009 or 2010 that will bring the road up to Class III status.
I took some pictures as well but the ones that I took going southbound did not turn out as well due to sunlight glare. Kimmy78 23:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
