Carter Webb, a young writer for television, is devastated when he breaks up with his actress-girlfriend. To get away from everything, and give his heart time to mend, he goes to suburban Detroit to care for his sickly grandmother. There he meets the Hardwickes, a family (of all women) in the neighborhood. In their own way, they all fall in love with him, and they help him to get over his girlfriend.
