Independence Square, Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis

The Independence Square in Saint Kitts and Nevis was first built in 1790 and was then called Pall Mall Square. It was used for slave auctions and council meetings. Slaves were brought from Africa and were sold by auction. Many wealthy French and English families built their homes nearby. In 1983 the square was renamed Independence Square. Today,it offers a place of cool relaxation in the centre of the town & is a historic site.
