Template talk:Infobox Greece
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The coat of arms & flag sections are relics from the Polish template on which this is based. Some Greek cities in antiquity, like Argos & Sparta, had shield blazons used by their troops (Spartan red Λ etc.) There are lion motifs all over Nafplio, a relic of the Venetian presence. The Thessaloniki article has the "Seal" of Thessaloniki displayed in its infobox. So, in a sense, many Greek locales can be said to have coat-of-arms-like symbols. (Even though heraldry did not develop in Byzantine lands to the extent it did in the west, and the Greek government does not have a King of Arms-type office -- that I am aware of -- which issues official grants of arms to citie, as is the case in many Western European nations). The question is: should we have a box for coat-of-arms, or should the final version of this template have a spot for the map only? --Jpbrenna 21:06, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
