Jade Sutherland (born Laura DeGroot) was a fictional character on the soap opera Home and Away, portrayed by Kate Garven from 2000 to 2004.
Jade was brought up as Kirsty's twin sister and Dani's younger sister. She suffered from low self esteem as she didn't think she was as pretty as Dani or as talented as Kirsty. She developed bullimia as a result.
On arriving in Summer Bay, Jade began dating Duncan Stewart, while Kirsty dated Nick Smith. Duncan and Jade didn't last very long as Duncan's behaviour following his mother, Ailsa's death became out of control.
Jade was soon happy again in a relationship with Nick, who was just as devoted to her as she was to him. They broke up after Angie Russell manipulated him and he was seen cheating on her on a reality TV show.
Nick left the Bay in 2003 after saying an emotional farewell to Jade, and she moved on with Seb Miller, who like Nick, Kirsty had dated previously. The bombshell that she and Kirsty's real twin, Laura DeGroot, were accidently swapped at birth shattered her and sent her off the rails.
In 2004, Duncan returned to town and tried to rekindle things with Jade. One evening, Duncan drove a car high on drugs with Jade inside. Seb tried to stop them by leaping on the bonnet, but Duncan kept driving and the car went over a cliff. The Sutherlands feared Jade was dead, but she had survived.
When Seb decided to move to the city after being disabled in the accident, to live with his grandfather Donald Fisher, Jade decide to go with him as she had no family and had been suspended from school. The Sutherlands showed she still had her family if she wanted them, and feeling happier than she had in months she said goodbye to her sisters Dani and Kirsty and left in 2004 for a fresh start in the City to get to know her biological family, the DeGroots.
